Schiphol Airport (AMS) Currency Exchange: Complete Guide

Amsterdam Schiphol keeps its currency exchange to a single operator — but the hours genuinely differ from one location to the next, more than at most airports on this site. Getting the timing right matters here.

GWK Travelex — the sole operator

Traditional Dutch banks (ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank) no longer run exchange desks at Schiphol. GWK Travelex is now the only currency-exchange operator in the airport, both before and after security.

Exact hours, confirmed directly from Schiphol's own live page

Unlike a lot of airport info that's stitched together from secondhand sources, these hours come straight from Schiphol's own current service page, checked directly:

Notice Lounge 2 closes an hour earlier than Lounges 1 and 3, and the GH corridor closes hours before any of them. If your flight has you heading toward G or H gates late in the day, don't count on that corridor counter still being open — head to Lounge 2 or 3 instead while you still can.

Before security: Schiphol Plaza

Landside, GWK Travelex has confirmed locations at Schiphol Plaza — one opposite Albert Heijn (07:00–15:30) and a second, Plaza 2 Arrivals (08:00–15:00). Schiphol's own page states a third landside location exists, but its exact spot isn't clearly identified in available sources — worth checking signage on arrival rather than hunting for a specific address.

A discrepancy worth knowing about: F-pier and G-pier

GWK Travelex's own store directory separately lists locations at F-pier and G-pier — these don't fully line up with Schiphol's official 5-location airside list above. This is a genuine, unresolved gap between the operator's own records and the airport's page, not a myth to dismiss. If you're heading through F or G pier specifically, treat a counter there as possible but not guaranteed until you see it.

ATMs: Geldmaat beats Euronet

For cash without exchange fees, Geldmaat — the shared ATM network for ABN AMRO, ING, and Rabobank — is fee-free and mostly located landside in Schiphol Plaza. Airside, you'll also find Euronet ATMs, which are independent machines carrying meaningfully higher fees and markups. If you have the choice, Geldmaat is the better pick.

The takeaway

That's exactly the kind of location-and-hours precision JesTiny Guide is built for — know exactly which Schiphol counter is open before you commit to a walk across the terminal.

Need mobile data too?

Sorting out currency is only half the "landing prepared" checklist — most travelers also need mobile data the moment they touch down, for maps, ride-hailing apps, and checking in with home. Rather than pushing one option, here are two eSIM providers worth comparing before your trip:

As with currency exchange, rates and coverage vary — worth a quick compare based on your destination and how much data you'll actually need.

Affiliate disclosure: JesTiny Guide may earn a commission if you use a pre-booking link through one of our partner counters, at no extra cost to you. This helps keep the site free and independently run. Rates shown are indicative and sourced from live currency APIs — always confirm the final rate at the counter before exchanging.
